Yesterday, Volusia County became the latest municipality in Florida to require that all healthy dogs and cats be sterilized (Palm Beach and Monroe counties also have spay/neuter ordinances).

Permits to hunt alligators in Florida went on sale this morning. The 4,500 available permits will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each permit allows the holder to kill two alligators.

Last week a judge in Palm Beach County ordered that a Palm Beach Gardens boy and his mother be permanently barred from owning or possessing animals. The judge also awarded custody of the woman’s two dogs and two cats to the county. The ruling closed a disturbing case of sexual abuse of animals.
