This week the Orlando Sentinel reported on “the largest dogfighting investigation in Central Florida in decades.” On Sunday, police responding to a tip arrived at a property in Apopka and discovered dozens of dogs, many with injuries, and a “blood-soaked” wooden ring. Officers also found skulls and other animal bones in nearby woods. In total, 54 pit bulls were rescued (police also seized eight vehicles, abandoned by dogfight participants who ran into the woods).
The paper noted that dogfighting was outlawed in Orange County in 1907!
Dogfighting, even attending a dogfight, is a felony in Florida. Did you know that ARFF offers a $1,000 reward in every county in Florida for information leading to arrests in cases of animal fighting? Click here for details.
