Cruelty cases sometimes have happy endings

Police and veterinarians in Escambia County have called it the worst case of animal cruelty they’ve ever seen.
Saturday evening a man in Pensacola who heard a dog whimpering looked over his neighbor’s fence and saw, “a dog’s nose poking out of the ground.” It took half an hour for the man and animal control officers to carefully dig the dog out. After spending the night at an emergency animal clinic, the dog is going to survive.
The happy ending: Escambia County animal control has received a dozen offers to adopt the dog.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating; no arrests have been made in the case.
