Speaking of alligators . . .

It happens a lot in Florida; animals are killed because humans are stupid. Sometimes wildlife officers are forced to kill a black bear who became aggressive toward people after being fed (it is a crime to feed bears in Florida). But more often it’s alligators who are the losers when humans are careless.
On Wednesday morning, an alligator bit a man who was retrieving balls from a golf course lake in New Port Richey. (The man makes money by re-selling the golf balls.) Although you can’t blame the alligator for biting the intruder, the alligator was captured and hauled to a slaughterhouse.
In a letter to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, David Rennard of Venice wrote that the incident, “shows how the lure of money can override common sense.” His letter continued, “Doesn’t everyone know that alligators are in most lakes in Florida, adding to the beauty of our surroundings, and that if one jumps into any of these lakes, one takes the dumb risk of getting attacked? It is so sad that the alligator was removed from the lake, bound, mouth taped shut and then destroyed. I blame stupidity and greed for this.”
We agree with you David. Thanks for your letter!
