bear_fire.jpgLast week we wrote that animals such as bears and deer are rarely victims of wildfires as they are able to escape approaching flames, so we were surprised to learn of a bear and her cub who were rescued from the Osceola National Forest last Sunday. The mother bear is being treated for burns.

According to a story in the Baker County Standard, the bear remained in the forest as it burned because her cub had climbed 65 feet up into a pine tree. Thankfully, FWC biologists tranquilized the bear, used a bucket truck to rescue the cub, and rushed both to a veterinary hospital at the University of Florida. Once the bears recover, they will be released.
