deadliest.jpgWe have to admit a certain fascination with the Discovery Channel reality show, “Deadliest Catch.” During each episode, fishing vessels pull hundreds of crabs up from the freezing ocean depths. Many of the unfortunate animals are destined for seafood restaurants right here in Florida.

Next month, four of the captains featured on the show will travel from Alaska to Sarasota. They aren’t coming for the sun. Instead, according to an article in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the men will be the guest of a local seafood supplier on a hunt for alligators and wild pigs.

Please contact Eric Donaldson (The Crab Broker), who is organizing the hunt, and urge him to cancel. Florida has a lot to offer tourists without killing animals for sport.

During their visit, the four captains will also participate in an autograph session and auction to raise funds for Sarasota’s Center for Child and Family Development. Barnacle Bill’s Seafood Restaurant will host the charity event. Please contact the restaurant and thank them for their efforts to raise money for at-risk children, but let the restaurant know that the captain’s hunting excursion will turn away potential donors.
