Save the Chimps is a wonderful sanctuary in Fort Pierce for chimpanzees “retired” from biomedical research. The sanctuary is currently transporting dozens of chimpanzees from a now-closed research facility in New Mexico to Florida. On each 2,000 mile trip, the Save the Chimps trailer carries 10 chimpanzee passengers. But the “great chimpanzee migration,” as the sanctuary calls their monumental effort, is on hold. Friday night the truck that pulls the trailer was stolen in Fort Pierce.
Be on the lookout for a white Ford F-350 pickup, license plate number C549KM. If you spot it, call the Fort Pierce Police Department at (772) 468-1805.
