One bright spot in a very sad story

horses.jpgTwo horses- “Pie,” a 2-year-old, and “Rosie,” a miniature horse- are looking for loving homes. The horses are safe in the care of the Horse Protection Association of Florida, but were witness to a horrible crime.

Early last week at a farm in Levy County, 73-year-old Laverne Holter shot and killed her six dogs, more than 30 goats, a horse and a donkey, and then killed her 82-year-old husband before finally shooting herself. Police believe the murder-suicide had been premeditated, but they can only guess why the two horses were spared. (A few goats and chickens also survived.)

The two horses, and many others, are available for adoption. The Horse Protection Association will hold an open house this Saturday, September 22, from 11am to 1:00pm. If you can provide a caring and permanent home for an abused or neglected horse, please visit www.hpaf.org for more information about adoption.
