Dogfighters behind bars

Another important story this week was the arrest of three men in Santa Rosa County accused of operating what police described as a major, multistate dogfighting operation.

Raymond Teamer, of Milton, was arrested Monday night after a traffic stop. In his car, sheriff’s deputies found two injured pit bulls. On Teamer’s property, deputies found 30 adult pit bulls and five puppies chained to steel posts. Sadly, most of these dogs also had wounds consistent with dog fighting (the remains of two dead dogs were also found).

Teamer has been charged with 35 felony counts of animal fighting, one count for each dog. Two other men, Jeffrey Jay and Michael Anthony Jones (both of the town of Century), were also charged with felony animal fighting. The men are accused of breeding, selling and fighting dogs in Alabama, Mississippi and other states.

The 35 pit bulls are being treated at Santa Rosa County’s animal shelter. Although they are not available for adoption, the shelter has many other dogs in need of a home. Adopting an animal would be a wonderful way to thank Santa Rosa County Animal Services for their efforts in helping the victims of dogfighting. Click here to view adoptable animals at the shelter.

Please thank the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office for their great work in breaking-up this horrible dogfighting operation.
