A few too many hits to the head?

He has been called one of the greatest boxers ever, but Pensacola resident Roy Jones Jr. is also infamous for his defense of animal fighting (most recently, he stuck up for disgraced football player/dogfighter Michael Vick).
In an interview in Sunday’s New York Daily News, Jones said that he allows his dogs to fight, although he added, “I never let them fight to the death.” Regardless of how long he watches the dogs fight, it sounds like dogfighting to us- a felony in Florida.
In today’s Pensacola News Journal, Jones’ lawyer, Fred Levin, didn’t help his client much when he said that Jones raises fighting chickens at his property in Cantonment for sale in Louisiana. Perhaps Mr. Levin didn’t know that breeding, transporting or selling an animal for the purpose of fighting is also a felony in Florida. (Jones owns a cockfighting ring in Louisiana; a law banning cockfighting in that state takes effect in August.)
It’s time for law enforcement to seriously investigate Mr. Jones for animal fighting (dogfighting and cockfighting). Please contact Escambia County Sheriff Ron McNesby and urge him to open an investigation.

If you are a boxing fan, please skip the HBO pay-per-view bout featuring Roy Jones Jr. on January 19. He doesn’t deserve your money.
