An all-too-brief respite

On Saturday morning, a trailer hauling eight pigs from a farm in Leesburg to the Ocala Livestock Market came loose on Interstate 75. According to a story in the Ocala Star-Banner, the pigs ran from the scene but were later found, “rooting in the piney woods.” (One of the pigs was injured in the accident and was euthanized.)
Unfortunately for the pigs it was to be only a brief escape from life as a “farm animal.” Local law enforcement and a few volunteers herded the pigs into a replacement trailer, and their sad journey to auction and the slaughterhouse continued.
