On July 4th, Bryan Wilson will spend 8 hours at the end of chain at the Sanford Paw Park (427 South French Street). If you’re in the area, stop by and give him a word of encouragement.

Bryan’s protest is one of many nationwide intended to raise awareness about the cruelty of keeping dogs perpetually chained. Bryan explains, “My 8 hours of discomfort is nothing compared to the daily suffering of so many dogs who spend their entire lives at the end of a chain, living in a small patch of mud, their chains wrapped around a tree, baking in the summer sun or freezing in the cold, desperate for affection or even just a walk. Most of us can barely begin to imagine the agony and loneliness of such a life for a social, intelligent animal like a dog.”

The event is also intended to bring attention to a proposed ordinance in Seminole County that will limit the confinement or tethering of dogs outdoors. If the ordinance is enacted, Seminole County will join Orange County and Palm Beach County in restricting the chaining of dogs (Okaloosa County prohibits the chaining of dogs entirely!). The cities of Fort Lauderdale, Dania, Hollywood, Oakland Park and Pembroke Park have similar ordinances.

Good luck Bryan!
