That strength on the end of the line is the will to live

Friday was the first day of alligator hunting season in Florida and, as in previous years, there were several media stories about the novelty of the hunt. The Fort Myers News-Press followed one hunting party onto Lake Trafford.
After spearing a 9-foot alligator with a harpoon, dragging the animal alongside a boat and then shooting the animal in the head with a firearm called a bangstick, hunter Willie Rivera noted, “To experience that power was something. I’ve never experienced something that strong on the end of a line. It was fun.”
The News-Press article also quoted hunt opponent Ski Olesky, owner of Lake Trafford Marina and Campground. Mr. Olesky described a cruel reality of the alligator hunt, “wounded gators bloated and floating in the lake, and others swimming around with arrows sticking from their heads.”
The hunt continues until November 1.
