steak.jpgThe University of Florida Gators are college football’s national champions. Prior to Thursday’s game, Florida Governor Charlie Crist made a friendly wager with Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry- if the University of Oklahoma Sooners beat the Gators, Governor Crist would send Governor Henry a box of oranges. If the Gators won, Governor Crist would receive steaks from cows killed in Oklahoma.

We’re happy that Governor Crist chose oranges to wager with. But now that a box of meat is headed to Tallahassee, we’re hoping you can help us convince the Governor to find an appropriate use for it.

In a statement released on Friday, Governor Crist said, “I look forward to the steak delivery from Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry.” Contact Governor Crist and suggest that he donate the meat to a needy sanctuary, such as Big Cat Rescue in Tampa (the sanctuary feeds 500 pounds of meat each day to rescued tigers and lions!).

*Ironically, the Oklahoma steaks may be from cows who were born in Florida. Florida has a large beef cattle industry, but very few Florida cows are slaughtered here. Instead, calves roam Florida ranches until they reach about 500 pounds; then they are loaded onto trucks and shipped to enormous feedlots in states like Texas, Kansas or Oklahoma, where there are fattened for slaughter.
