Sloppy Kisses for Banfield
July 31st, 2009 by admin
This week Banfield, the largest veterinary practice in the U.S., announced that it is no longer offering tail docking or ear cropping procedures in its hospitals. In a press release, a company spokesperson explained, “After thoughtful consideration and reviewing medical research, we have determined it is in the best interest of the pets we treat… to discontinue performing these unnecessary cosmetic procedures.”
Ear cropping and tail docking of dogs are cruel mutilations that continue to be promoted by the American Kennel Club and other breeders. Ear cropping and tail docking for cosmetic reasons is opposed by the American Veterinary Medical Association and other leading veterinary organizations. The practices are banned in several countries, including Australia and Sweden.
Banfield has over 50 hospitals across Florida (many located inside PetSmart stores). Please contact Banfield and thank them for discontinuing these inhumane practices.
