Scripps animal technician arrested for abuse (of a human)

Earlier this week, media in Palm Beach County reported the arrest of Colleen Nicole Grear on “one count of using a computer to seduce or solicit a child and three counts of sexual assault on a child under age 18.” On Tuesday, Grear was confronted by police at her job at The Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter. A Scripps spokesperson told the Jupter Courier, “I know what she did at Scripps Florida but I am not able to tell you.” Fortunately, the Palm Beach Post did some digging and discovered that Grear works as an Animal Technician responsible for mice and rats in Scripps laboratory.
Of course, not everyone who abuses animals for a living also abuses children, but this case does make us wonder about the types of people Scripps has hired to care for animals in their research lab.
