Sponsors of shark tournament want you to remember them, and we do to
September 9th, 2009 by admin
The Destin Fishing Rodeo begins October 1. During this year’s month-long event, each Saturday will be “Shark Saturday,” when anglers will compete to kill the largest shark. The winner will take home $250 and the ocean will lose several mature, healthy bull sharks, hammerheads and tiger sharks.
Shark fishing is controversial. Sharks are essential to the ocean ecosystem, and shark tournaments contribute to the continuing decline in vulnerable shark populations. Maybe that’s why the Destin Fishing Rodeo has not been able to find sponsors for each of October’s Saturdays?
Companies get involved in events because they want exposure for their name or brand. Sponsors are also interested in reaching an audience that they think would be interested in purchasing their products or services. The following sponsors of “Shark Saturdays” want you to remember their company when you shop for legal services, promotional products, glass for your condo, or a boat slip.
If you think it’s cruel and disgusting to kill a shark for a trophy, or if you care about the health of the ocean ecosystem, we also encourage you to remember these companies. Click on the link to contact the companies to express your disapproval of their support of this cruel and senseless event.
