In August, ARFF wrote about African dwarf frogs on sale at Brookstone stores in Florida. The frogs are sold as part of a package called the “Frog-O-Sphere” that also includes a small plastic aquarium, some gravel and a bamboo plant. This holiday season Brookstone is featuring the product as one of its “Gifts $50 & Under.” After yesterday’s news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they might want to rethink that.

The CDC announced that they are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to contact with African dwarf frogs. Infections have been reported in 25 states, including Florida.

Brookstone may not have compassion for frogs stuck in plastic prisons, but they probably don’t want their customers to get sick!

You can help.
Contact Brookstone and urge them to remove the Frog-O-Sphere from its stores.
