From Clewiston to Washington, D.C., big snakes are a topic of concern
December 11th, 2009 by admin
Yesterday, the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works voted in support of S. 373, sponsored by Florida U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, which would halt the import and commercial trade in Burmese pythons, anaconda, Boa constrictors and several other species of large snakes. (The bill would make it illegal to import these potentially dangerous snakes, or to sell them across state lines.)
Senate Bill 373 now moves to the full U.S. Senate for a vote. Senator Nelson has taken a leadership role on this important issue. We need your help to convince Florida’s other U.S. Senator, George LeMieux, to vote in support of S. 373.

Please contact Senator George LeMieux and urge him to vote in support of S.373. Let him know that this bill would protect Florida residents and Florida’s fragile environment.Contact:

Also on Thursday, 1,000 miles away from Washington, in Clewiston, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission met and discussed exotic reptiles. ARFF Communications Director Don Anthony attended the meeting and spoke in support of state legislation introduced by State Senator Eleanor Sobel that would ban the sale or breeding of the large snakes listed above within Florida.
