smiley.jpgTethering/chaining. Last night, the Escambia County Commission voted unanimously to give final approval to an ordinance that restricts the chaining/tethering of dogs. The ordinance makes it unlawful to tether a dog outdoors unless a guardian is outside along with the dog (dogs under 6 months of age can never be chained outdoors).

Please send a quick thank you to the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners for their vote in support of this excellent ordinance. Contact:

Victims of domestic violence. On Tuesday, Orange County commissioners approved awarding $50,000 toward the construction of Central Florida’s first shelter for companion animals of domestic violence victims. The kennel at Harbor House will house up to 20 pets. The importance of the shelter was explained by Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty, “In Orange County, Harbor House receives two to three calls per week from women who want to leave domestic violence situations but won’t leave unless they can bring along their pet.”
