Miss Florida USA may be leaving South Florida; will they take their furs with them?
October 5th, 2010 by admin
The Miss Florida Teen USA pageant concluded on Sunday. Congratulations to Mikyle Crockett, representing Jacksonville, who won the crown. ARFF had a strong presence outside the pageant, with our own “contestants” dressed in bloodied fur coats. See photos from ARFF’s protest here.
Again this year Miss Florida USA/Miss Florida Teen USA stubbornly refused to cut ties with the cruel fur industry (contestants modeled fur coats during the pageants), but 2010 has not been a good year for pageant organizers. Earlier this year, the City of Hollywood ended its sponsorship of the pageant after 9 years. The pageant has said that 2010 might be the last year that the pageant is held in South Florida.
As the pageant searches for a new home, we hope that it will consider this an opportunity to make a fresh start- without the sponsorship of the Fur Information Council of America. If not, ARFF promises to follow them to their new home.
