Ask new pageant hosts to take a stand against fur
April 15th, 2011 by admin
The Miss Florida USA pageant has announced that it has signed a contract with a new broadcasting company, which means that this year’s pageant finals will air on a new group of stations, including WPLG Ch. 10 in Miami.
This year’s pageant will also have new hosts: Will Manso, Ch. 10’s Sports Director, and Kristen Berset, a sports anchor at Washington, D.C.’s WUSA Ch. 9 (Ms. Berset was Miss Florida USA 2004).
Unfortunately, one thing that has not changed is the pageant’s close ties with the cruel fur industry. Again this year, the Fur Information Council of America is a sponsor of the pageant. And as in previous years, pageant contestants will model fur coats, and a full-length mink coat is part of the “prize” package.
Please contact Mr. Manso and Ms. Berset and request that they say a few words to pageant organizers against the pageant’s links with the fur industry (please be polite, the new hosts likely did not know they were stepping into controversy when they agreed to host the pageant). Also, ask the new hosts to have no part in the awarding of the mink coat.

Pageant finals are scheduled for July 15-16. Mark your calendars and plan to join ARFF’s protest outside the pageant. Help us speak up for the millions of mink, foxes and other animals killed for their fur.
