Help Greyhounds! VOTE NO on MARCH 8
Allowing slots at tracks would subsidize live dog racing, and seal the fate of thousands of greyhounds for years to come. Greyhound dogs suffer horribly at the hands of track owners; living 22 hours a day in small cages, eating the cheapest feed available, and killed by the thousands every year because they can no longer run fast enough. By VOTING NO ON MARCH 8, you can help put an end to this cruelty!
The powerful gambling lobby has spent millions of dollars to deceive Floridians into believing that slots would better fund schools. While pennies (literally) may trickle into individual schools, there is no guarantee that schools will ever actually benefit - much like the Florida lottery!
You Can Help!
The low voter turnout expected for this special election means your vote is extremely important! Please be sure to go to the polls on March 8, and Vote NO! And please, ask your friends, family, and co-workers to do the same. With your help we can defeat this dangerous proposal and score a powerful victory for the animals!

Don’t
Get Taken For A Ride In Delray Beach!
The
Animal Rights Foundation of Florida (ARFF) is committed to working
with city officials to ban horse-drawn carriages wherever they are
present. ARFF representatives recently met with the Mayor and Commissioners
of Delray Beach. We informed them of the dangers of permitting animal
drawn carriages in their busy downtown area, submitted petitions
of residents and tourists, and urged them to enact an ordinance
banning these outdated contraptions. Mayor Perlman has agreed to
support the ordinance, now let’s convince the other commissioners!
you
can help!
Pressure
from concerned residents and tourists has resulted in bans on carriage
horses in a number of Florida cities, including Palm Beach, Hollywood,
Key West, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Treasure Island, and Panama
City Beach. Please contact each of the commissioners individually
as they make their decisions and ask them to prohibit carriage horse
rides in Delray Beach. If you are not a resident of Delray Beach,
tell them that you avoid cities that support the exploitation of
animals for entertainment. If you would like us to send you petitions
(especially Delray residents) please contact us at arff@animalrightsflorida.org
or at 954-727-2733 ext. 241. (Note: It is more effective if you
do not mention that you are associated with the Animal Rights Foundation
of Florida.)

The commissioners
are going to look to community business leaders like the Delray
Beach Chamber of Commerce and Delray Beach Joint Venture for their
position on carriage horse rides. Currently the Chamber of Commerce
is supporting the carriage rides and the Joint Venture has not taken
a stand. Please ask both to take a stand AGAINST cruel carriage
rides, and ask them to urge the city to enact an ordinance banning
horse-drawn carriages. Tell them that as tourists (or residents)
you avoid cities that support the exploitation of animals for entertainment.

Team Up With ARFF and Crimestoppers to Crack Down on Animal Fighting!
ARFF offers $1000 Reward Statewide!
Throughout 2004, story after story appeared about dogs and roosters being saved from brutal fighting rings in Florida. Animals, who were tied up with little room to exercise and none of the smallest enjoyments of life they should have known, were being rescued by the dozen, taken out of the hell which had become their lives. The lucky ones were sent to live in sanctuaries or with families who could lovingly care for them. The others, who had to be destroyed, were at least taken out of their misery.
Two years ago, ARFF fought tooth and nail to pass the Animal Fighting Bill, turning Florida's weak animal fighting ban into one of the strongest in the country. Animal fighting, along with the possession of animals for the purpose of fighting is now a felony in Florida. And while we are excited about the arrests which have been made, we know they are only the tip of the iceberg.
That's why ARFF teamed up with Crimestoppers to offer a $1,000 reward in every county in Florida for information leading to arrests in cases of animal fighting.
You Can Help Stop These Massacres!
- Please contact your local Crimestoppers and make sure they are aware of ARFF's $1,000 reward.
- Help get the word out about the reward by posting signs, contacting community bulletin boards, or asking local news affiliates to air public service announcements about the reward.
- For more information about the reward and how you can help, contact 954-727-arff or arff@animalrightsflorida.org.
