Circus desperately seeking an audience
November 15th, 2006 by admin
On Sunday, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper commented on the sorry state of the American circus. In an editorial, they pondered why attendance at circuses is declining, “Perhaps it is as simple as people craving more exciting, interactive entertainment. Perhaps it is because we have all become more sensitive to potential animal abuse.” We believe that more and more people are recognizing the inherent cruelty of keeping elephants in chains, or of forcing these magnificent animals to perform degrading and unnatural acts.
As the Cole Bros. Circus travels through south Florida, ARFF is speaking-up for the elephants and all the animals in the circus by holding public demonstrations. Please join is at upcoming protests: November 15 in Vero Beach, November 18 in Port St. Lucie (visit our Events Calendar for details).
When the Cole Bros. Circus performed in the City of Coral Springs last week (Nov. 9-12), they did not bring their elephants. This was a direct result of ARFF’s protests and a desire by the city and a local sponsor of the circus to avoid controversy. Although elephants are part of the Cole Bros. show in other Florida cities, Coral Springs sent a strong message to the circus. If more cities followed Coral Springs’ lead, the elephants could be discontinued from the circus altogether.
Please write to Coral Springs’ Mayor and Commissioners and thank them for their principled stand against elephants in the circus:
