One more excellent letter

We have to make an important addition to our previous entry. Yesterday’s Palm Beach Post printed a guest commentary by Duncan Strauss about the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. The circus will be performing later this week in West Palm Beach.

The commentary is titled, “For the love of animals, avoid the circus,” and includes this bleak but accurate paragraph:

“Animals in circuses endure a relentlessly awful life, marked by constant travel in cramped quarters, where access to food and water and proper veterinary care can’t always be counted on, but punishment, pain, cruelty and, sometimes, premature death can be.”

Click here to read the entire piece. Our hats are off to Duncan Strauss for his excellent, and timely, commentary.

Mr. Strauss is the host of a radio show about animal issues, “Talking Animals,” which airs on the Tampa NPR affiliate WMNF. The January 2 program will also be about Ringling and its treatment of animals. If you don’t live in the Tampa area, you can listen to the program live on the internet at www.wmnf.org (the program begins as 11:30am). Click here for more details.

ARFF will be holding demonstrations at the circus in West Palm Beach on opening night (Wednesday, December 26) and on Saturday, December 29. Please join us! Visit our website calendar for more information.
