Again this year, a bill to repeal special interest tax exemptions has died in the Florida Legislature. Senate Bill 216, introduced by Sen. Evelyn Lynn, has been withdrawn. The bill would have removed sales tax exemptions on feed purchased for ostrich, dairy cows and other livestock. Tax exemptions on the sale of racing dogs, and the purchase of bait used by commercial fishermen to capture lobsters, crabs and other crustacea, would also have been discontinued. We wrote about these tax exemptions during last year’s legislative session, when a similar bill died in committee.

But it’s not all bad news in Tallahassee! Several very good bills- that would help horses, dogs and cats, and wildlife- have made progress during the 2010 Legislative Session. Visit ARFF’s website (click here) to learn more about pro-animal bills under consideration, and then please contact your state senator and state representative and ask for their support.
